About Chrysalis

We have been supporting those who identify as women for the past 20 years, evolving into the centre that we are today. We exist to empower and inspire women, so they can reach their full potential and take control of their own life.

We started Chrysalis with just one goal in mind: Supporting, empowering and inspiring females.

Supporting, empower and inspiring females.
Supporting, empower and inspiring females.

We believe that all adults who identify as female should have access to the same support, therapy, and tools, to enable them to achieve their own hopes and dreams regardless of their backgrounds or individual circumstances.

We are here to help you do this! At Chrysalis, we can help by providing the right support and guidance, whether its one to one support or our interactive group sessions. We can help to give you the skills, the tools, and the confidence to make the right changes and give you the opportunity to take control of your life.

20 years of experience in supporting females.

In the late 90's St Helens Council Youth Service ran a group called the Women & Girls Information & Resource Centre based in Peter Street Community Centre. They offered counselling, and some personal development courses through St. Helens College.

The funding was eventually cut and no longer included women over 18. A group of women got together and formed a committee to keep the support for women going. They started as a single afternoon drop-in which they called Women Support Women (WSW).

A brief history of Chrysalis

2002/3

We got our first pot of funding.

2005

WSW had to move from its home at Peter Street as the council refurbished. We found temporary accommodation in Windlehurst Youth Centre in a windowless room that acted as an office and a counselling room.

2006

We were able to move to the Parish Church Hall rooms in the town centre. Now we had 3 dedicated rooms (with windows!) and several very dedicated volunteers.

2006

We adopted our own Constitution.

2009

We started paying part-time salaries.

2011

The Youth Service moved from Peter Street Centre so the rooms that WSW originated in were available to rent. We moved back and with two floors we felt like we had so much space.

2013

We changed our name from Women Supporting Women to Chrysalis Centre for Change.

2018

We expanded to become a 5-day provision.

2019

We moved into our new home here at the Beacon Building, rebranded, and adopted a new Constitution.

2020

We became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
